Getting Started

How to connect Tesla, pair the VoltEdge virtual key, and start using VoltEdge.

This guide covers the actual onboarding path: authorize Tesla, pair the `voltedgesystem.com` virtual key, scan the QR code, and handle accounts with more than one vehicle before you move into live commands and telemetry.

Authorize Tesla first

Start from VoltEdge and finish the Tesla sign-in flow first. Tesla expects the app to be authorized before virtual key pairing can complete.

Pair the virtual key

Scan the QR code or open the Tesla deep link for `voltedgesystem.com` on the phone that already has the Tesla app installed and signed in.

Choose the active car

If your Tesla account has more than one car, pair the right VIN and then use the selected-vehicle controls inside VoltEdge to switch context.

Onboarding flow

The exact setup flow for live Tesla access.

1. Start from VoltEdge and complete Tesla sign-in

Use the Tesla connect flow in VoltEdge first. Tesla's virtual key pairing expects the third-party app to already be authorized, so do not start with the QR code alone.

2. Pair the `voltedgesystem.com` virtual key in the Tesla app

Open the Tesla pairing deep link or scan the QR code from a desktop screen using the phone that already has the Tesla app. Tesla will open the app, show the `voltedgesystem.com` pairing request, and guide you through the confirmation steps.

3. If you have more than one car, pair by VIN

Tesla supports an optional `vin` parameter on the pairing link. Use that when you want to target one specific vehicle, and repeat the pairing flow for any other car in the account that should accept signed commands or telemetry.

4. Return to VoltEdge and pick the active vehicle

After pairing, go back into the live Tesla-Owners workspace. The dashboard and explorer surfaces both work from a selected vehicle, so switch to the car you want before running commands, loading vehicle-specific routes, or checking telemetry.

Virtual key pairing

Scan this QR code to pair `voltedgesystem.com` in the Tesla app.

Authorize VoltEdge first, then pair the virtual key.
Scan the QR code with the phone that has the Tesla app installed and signed in.
The pairing link for VoltEdge is tied to `voltedgesystem.com`.
You can remove the virtual key later from the Locks screen in the vehicle.

More than one car

Use VIN-specific pairing when the Tesla account has multiple vehicles.

Pair one specific vehicle

If more than one car is on the account, use the VIN-specific pairing link so Tesla opens the pairing flow for the exact vehicle you want.

Repeat for each car that needs commands

If you want signed commands or realtime data on multiple cars, repeat the pairing flow for each vehicle that should be active in VoltEdge.

Use the selected vehicle inside VoltEdge

After sign-in, switch the active car from the selected-vehicle controls in the dashboard or the explorer. Routes that use `{vin}` or `:vin` fill from the current selection.

Inside VoltEdge

How to switch the active car after pairing.

In the live dashboard, the vehicle and energy views work from the currently selected asset. If the wrong car is active, switch the selected vehicle before sending any command or reviewing vehicle-specific telemetry.
In Probe / Explore and the Tesla API Explorer, routes that use {vin} or :vin fill automatically from the selected vehicle. Choose the correct car first so request previews and commands target the intended VIN.
If a signed command is still unavailable, make sure the virtual key was paired to the same vehicle you selected in VoltEdge.
